About this generous and noble plant we know two varieties: white or silver birch and floral or northern birch. In the treatment of herbs both have the same value. Birch is 10 to 25 m tall tree with a thin, slender twigs and smooth white bark that can be peeled to leaves as thin as paper. The leaves on the stems are square or triangular sloping, spiked and double sawtooth. Flower head tassels are as long as 3-4 cm and established together with the leaves. ,

Birch is a tree that we can find almost everywhere.  The leaves, buds, and bark, are used. Birch leaves (Folium betulae) are best picked young, but in the spring, when it is fully developed. Leaves are with distinct bitter and sharp acid taste, with a definite fragrance. Dry the leaves in a shade and a draft, and never in the sun.

The leaves contain about 8% of tannin, about 8% sugar, a little essential oil (0.05% in leaves, and the buds of up to 4%), resin, bitter substances, saponosides and other.

For medicine use are collected juice, tassels, leaves, and bark. Extract the juice in late February, and March and harvest the leaves during the growing season. The buds contain many essential oils, but not vitamin C, which in turn is in the leaves. Essential oil of blossoms beneficially effects on the airways.

In the spring, when they begin to circulate juices, pierced a hole in the tree. In it put a thin tube through which you will get birch juice. After that close the hole with a wooden wedge. From only one tree in a day, you can collect about 4.5 l juice and 170 l of the season! Often drilling the same tree damages the wood, reducing his resistance to fungal attack. Juice and wine are an excellent remedy for the treatment of atherosclerosis, obesity, kidney stones and other kidney diseases. From the buds and the leaves of birch, you can prepare a tea decoction (overflow plants with hot water), this tea is not for boiling! This tea is one of the natural resources for the excretion of urine at all.

Birch leaves are used successfully for the treatment of skin diseases – eczema – and various dermatitis, and the application is in the form of a medicinal bath. Tea against dropsy:

Ingredients: 5 g of birch leaf, rosemary 5 g, 5 g of nettle leaf, field horsetail 10 g, and 10 g of blueberries.

Pour one tablespoon of the combination into 200 ml of hot water. Chilled tea can be sweetened with honey if desired.

Tea against rheumatism and gout:

Apply the same amount of birch leaf, nettle – leafs buckthorn bark (Cortex Frangulae). Prepare the tea like the previous example.

Recipe of tea that is known and recognized urological tea.

So: birch leaf (20%), plant trinkets (5%), silk from corn (15%), leaf blueberry (10%), Mint (15%), nettle leaf (15%) and leaf bear ‘grapes (20% ).

Use this tea against inflamed kidney in the following way:

Tablespoons of mixture overflow with two dl of cold water, cover, heat up to a boil, let it sit for 1 hour, strain.

Use it three times a day, drink two dl of unsweetened tea after meals.

For easier urination: three times a day before meals, take one tablespoon finely minced leaves of birch. Chop the leaves before use.

Tea against kidney stones

Make tea mixture of birch leaf, creeping twitch (Rhizoma graminis), speedwell (Herba Veronicae) and chicory (Herba Cichorii).  Also, prepare it like against dropsy.

5-6 tablespoon of fresh juice is mixed with goat’s milk and honey, or with a little wine, and drink in the spring to clean the blood of bad juices, lungs of mucus, kidney sand, and skin rashes and vitamin deficiencies – scurvy.

In the case of swollen spleen, drink the tea fasting of 20 g birch bark and 10 grams of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) cooked in 2.5 dl white wine.
